Rara Lake is the largest lake of Nepal, situated in Mugu district in the far western region of Nepal, near Gam Ghadi (district-headquarter of Mugu) and Talcha airstrip. It takes around 3 to 4 days of walking to reach Rara from Jumla.

The lake is situated in the Rara National Park and because of its remote location and the violence/threat lake has been visited by only few tourist in the last couple of years.
There are hardly any facilities for tourists. Accommodations consists of primitive beds (mostly in very basic dormitories) and basic meals. You won't find any showers/bathrooms and toilets are scares and very basic.he most commom proposed option by trekking agencies in Kathmandu is through a 14 day camping trekking via Jumla. You can reach Rara lake in 3 or 4 days of trekking from Jumla. You can reach Jumla by plane from Nepalganj, which on its turn you can reach by air from Pokhara or Kathmandu. The bus ride from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj takes at least 12 hours.
